There are many things you can do with a lemon- bake a cake, make lemonade, use it as a door stop or get fantastically glowing skin. Now I can’t help you with the cake recipe but I can show you how to use half a lemon and some sugar to give yourself an instantly smooth complexion.
I would describe my skin as being combination with some stubborn pigmentation left behind from pregnancy. The pigmentation is just on top of my cheeks and is much worse in Summer when my face is exposed to the sun. Because of this I’m always on the look out for creams, serums or beauty tips that will help with the fading of it. Apparently nothing (except laser) will get rid of it completely. There are however some ingredients that will help diminish its appearance – anything with Vitamin C in it will greatly help. I get a Vitamin C serum made up at my local Compounding Pharmacy. A girlfriend of mine got me onto it and now I can’t live without it. It’s divine and I’ve noticed a huge difference in the time I’ve been using it. I also use rose-hip oil at night which helps with the brightening and evening out of the complexion. In addition to this I make a baking soda and water exfoliator that works like microdermabrasion on your skin. I use this twice a week. It’s a fact that it’s not so much wrinkles that can make us look older – it’s an uneven complexion.
Which brings me to this next beauty tip. All you need is lemon and sugar. Lemon is a natural whitening agent so please use it sparingly. (Who remembers putting lemon juice in their hair over summer to lighten it? I certainly did!) And the sugar works as a natural exfoliant. Cut the lemon in half and dip it into the sugar making sure to coat it evenly.
Next, take the lemon and gently scrub it all over your cleansed face especially focusing on problem areas- ie. pigmentation.
If your skin starts tingling or going red I would stop and rinse your face with cold water. Otherwise just keep rubbing for about a minute and then wash your face well making sure you haven’t left any lemon juice on your skin. You should instantly see a clearer and brighter complexion. I haven’t been doing this long enough to notice a difference with the pigmentation- but I will let you know how I go. I did however get compliments from 2 people in one day saying my skin was glowing and looked so fresh. Sure they were both family members but sometimes they can be our harshest critics.
So this is the after shot. What do you think? (Sorry about the bad photography.) Try it yourself and let me know what you think. Or better yet, if you have any other beauty tips I’d love to hear them. x
