Beauty Buzz Monday

Is it raining where you are today? Here I’m enjoying the quintessential Melbourne Summer- watching the rain drenching my clothes on the washing line, rugged up in leggings and ugg boots and drinking hot coffee while wondering where the hell the sun is!

So what better way to brighten up a gloomy day than with some of my current favourite beauty products. I recently came back from America and most importantly NEW YORK – (so please let me indulge in one more amazing photo …..)

Ok, let’s continue. One of my first stops in America was of course Sephora– the amazing mega store for cosmetics and make up addicts alike. This place is hard core and means business. Staff walk around with those Madonna like ear pieces and seem to always be checking in with some voice from above for the availability of stock and colours. I image a Nicki Minaj type character siting above in a glass room looking down on all her minions running around! They are very serious about make up here – and rightly so – there is nothing you can’t find. And if they don’t stock then you probably don’t need to know about it.

One of my first buys was the Ole Henriksen CC Creme. I was introduced to this range by my sister who raves about the Vitamin C serum. As you know I’m a huge advocate and lover of the BB creams so a CC cream was the natural progression. A CC cream is basically a corrector and does everything a BB cream does. The Ole Henriksen does all the usual things like illuminating, diffusing flaws, nourishing skin and protecting it with SPF 30, but what I really love about it is the fact that it helps your skin long term. Over time it actually CORRECTS your skin. It reduces redness and calms the skin, brightens and fades dark spots and minimises lines. It contains 5 sources of Vitamin C which is one of the key ingredients you need in any skin care if you’re looking to even out your skin tone. It also contains Tripeptide 5 which is said to strengthen skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

It goes on super smooth and feels hydrating on the skin. Coverage is a bit better than a BB cream but I still like to use a concealer as well. It leaves your skin with a subtle dewy look but you can always use a powder on top if that’s not your style. I don’t think there are any retailers in Australia that stock it but you can find it at plenty of online stores such as StrawberryNet. Retails for around $36.

Next up is the NARS illuminator. I’ve never used this one before as I’ve always been loyal to the Benefit range when it comes to illuminators. This colour however got me hooked instantly. It has a peachy, slightly gold tone which gives your skin a very subtle sheen rather than over the top glitter look that some illuminators have. The colour is aptly named orgasm and it does give you that pleasantly *flushed* look. You can wear it on its own all over your face or just use it to highlight the high points on your face- cheek bones, chin and top of your lip. Alternatively you can mix it in with your usual make up (which is what I do) for a softer more natural glow. Retails for around $30.IMG_4306

I also stocked up on a few favourites from the OPI range. Still hands down the best nail polish I’ve found as far as colour range and staying power goes. Oh, and who can go past the cute names? Retail price approx $18. (Half that in America….grrrr)Β IMG_4307

The latest addition to my Clinique chubby stick family is Heftiest Hibiscus. I love these for the simple fact that they are easy to apply and really last on your lips without drying them out. This colour is the perfect pop of fuchsia for that oh-so-elusive Melbourne summer that I’m sure is just around the corner. Retail price $35.00 (and yes, half that at Sephora…double grrrr!)

The next lipstick is from a local Melbourne company called Ellie make up and I stumbled upon it purely by chance – lucky for me because I just love this colour! It’s called Foxy and its a perfect pop of orange neon. It’s a matte lipstick which is something new for me as I’m usually drawn to more of a glossy finish. Check out their whole range of make up and make up services here. Lipsticks retail for around $33.

Happy Monday. Hope the sun is shining where you are. X
