FASHION FRIDAY – My BROW Obsession!

Welcome to Fashion Fridays! A time when I present you with my weekly fashion obsession. It could be anything from my favourite pair of shoes to a beauty product I can’t live without!

Today it’s all about eyebrows. Ever since I grew out my fringe- roughly a year ago- I’ve become obsessed by them. When I was younger I had the most amazing Brooke Shield’s bushy eye brows that are all the rage at the moment. Unfortunately though I grew up in a time of Pamela Anderson and Gwen Stefani when thin was in. So I plucked them to death and now I struggle to fill in the gaps.

I truly believe that the fuller your eyebrows are the more youthful you look. When I stumbled across some old photos of myself in the 90’s I was horrified to see I barely had a few strands of hair above my eyes- so pitiful.

Fast forward to 2017 and I now notice everyone’s brows- male or female. While I have yet to commit to feather tattooing, because I’m secretly petrified of looking like this…

I have come across the holy grail of eye brow pencils which has kind of changed my life- ie. shortened my time in the bathroom.

It’s the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil and it looks like this:

I love it cause its a combination of a pencil and powder and when it goes on it doesn’t look harsh and you can’t see any lines. You basically tap it where you want the hair to be and then use the curly brush thing on the other end to smooth the hairs in place.

I’ve pretty much tried everything from Nars to Anastasia to Mac and this is definitely the best!

Speaking of eye brows- you know who has really interesting ones? Cholas!! I came across these Mexican/Puerto Rican women on a beauty blog once and I’ve been fascinated ever since. You can usually tell a chola from her thin, arched, angry looking tattooed-on or penciled-on eyebrows, They wear brown or dark red lip liner have nose piercings, tats and wear lots of gold jewellery with their name and crosses,

The chola style is common in southern California like east LA, San Diego, OC, and also NYC. Here’s a pic of a real chola…

And here’s Jennifer Lopez channeling her inner chola…

Remember when she was dating P Diddy back in the day? Yeah- total chola mode there…

Sorry for the diversion- but I love when a discussion about eye brows can lead you to discover a whole new world of looks and people that you never knew existed. (If you’re still intrigued you’ll love the chola tutorial below!)

Whether you’re a chola girl or a bushy browed chick like Cara Delevingne just remember to go with whatever you think suits you. Just because bushy is in doesn’t mean you must follow the trend. But whichever direction you choose to take- please consult a professional first. They’ll get your shape right and then you can maintain it at home. Try not to shape and pluck your brows on your own- entrust them to someone who knows what they’re doing.

Thanks for stopping by – hope you enjoyed Fashion Friday!

Love Chrystal x

Yass guurl! Before, I kept switching between Anastasia, Benefit, and Hourglass and they all work well. But then I got tired of paying $20+ for it every time I restock LOL Recently bought the Etude House Drawing Eyebrow Pencil and it’s pretty good for $6 🙂
