“They’re going to run this, they’re going to tell you that I’m crazy.”- Kanye West 2020
(Disclaimer: If you’re about to say the world has bigger issues to focus on right now, then this post is not for you. Feel free to keep scrolling. For everyone else, read on.)
Kanye West is a man clearly in trouble. He’s spiralling out of control and looks to be suffering from a bi-polar episode. His recent and past ramblings are all cries for help. We need to listen, not judge.
The rapper recently announced he wanted to run for president of the USA, which in all honesty doesn’t sound too far fetched considering who’s “in power” currently.
No-one paid too much attention to Kanye initially, with many thinking it was all a ploy to sway votes away from Biden ensuring Trump had majority votes.
Whatever. Who knows.
At the time we all laughed at the thought of Kim Kardashian potentially becoming the First Lady. Memes did the rounds and people feigned horror at the thought of a First Lady with a sex tape. Let me correct that -a First Lady with a public sex tape.
I digress. A few days ago Kanye launched his campaign tour for the US presidential election at an event in Charleston, South Carolina. He spoke on theology, homelessness, corporate power as well as engaging in a long debate with an audience member about abortion. Kanye also suggested that women should be given $1m when they have a baby.
During the rally, Kanye spoke about some rather personal information about his wife Kim and daughter North.
Kanye began to tell a story about how he believed divine intervention entered his life in a way that caused Kim to refuse to terminate a pregnancy.
“I was having the rapper’s lifestyle,” he said. “I was sitting up in Paris, and I had my leather pants on … and I had my laptop up and I got all of my creative ideas … And the screen went black and white and God said, ‘if you fuck with my vision I’m going to fuck with yours’.
“And I called my wife and she said, we’re gonna have this baby. I said we’re gonna have this child … So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world when I didn’t want to. She stood up and she protected that child.”
Kanye’s emotional and distressing address continued as he started crying when speaking about his father. He said his dad never wanted him and tried to force his mother to have an abortion when she was pregnant with him.
“My mom saved my life. My dad wanted to abort me. My mom saved my life. There would have been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy,” he said, crying uncontrollably, before shouting: “I almost killed my daughter! I almost killed my daughter!”
This outburst must have prompted Kim to realise her husband was crying out for help. Kanye then went into a twitter rant last night claiming all sorts of things. Saying Kim is trying to have a doctor “lock me up.”
The couples marriage seems to have hit another crisis point following the rally with a source close to Kim reporting that she was mortified to learn her husband had revealed such personal details of their life.
“Kim is shocked that Kanye spoke about North at the rally,” the source said. “She is furious that he shared something so private.”
“In the Bible, it says, ‘Thou shall not kill,'” Kanye said. “I remember that my girlfriend called me screaming and crying, and I was just thinking, because at that time I was a rapper I was out there, [had] different girlfriends and everything … and she said, ‘I’m pregnant.’ And I said, ‘Yes!’ And then I said, ‘Uh oh.’ ”
“She was crying … and for one month and two months and three months, we talked about her not having this child. She had the pills in her hand,” he went on. “I called my wife and she said, ‘We’re gonna have this baby,’ and I said ‘We’re gonna have this child.’ ”
Reading all this about Kanye it’s clear to see he needs help from those around him. Where are his friends? Where are his minders to say ‘stop this!’ We need to be helping Kanye, not ridiculing him. The way he’s being mocked just sickens me.
Mental illness shouldn’t be used to inspire the next meme or Tik Tok video. I don’t care if it’s Kanye West or Mother Teresa. People are people.
Have we not learnt anything from Britney Spear’s now infamous breakdown? Images of her shaving her head and smashing a windscreen are now part of pop culture history. We all joke that if “Britney can survive 2007 we can survive anything!”
Yet, poor Britney is still under the conservatorship of her father and manager. She basically has no rights or freedoms to live a life that she chooses. If you want to know more about Britney just follow #FreeBritney and prepare to be stunned.
Kanye has now removed the following tweets but deleting them doesn’t make the problem go away. I’ve included them in this post to help people see that a cry for help comes in all forms. Sometimes it’s a public breakdown and sometimes it comes in the form of rambling tweets in the middle of the night.
During his recent rally, the rapper referenced the media coverage of the event, saying “They’re going to run this, they’re going to tell you that I’m crazy. Well the world’s crazy!”
Amen to that! The world is most certainly crazy and we don’t need to be adding to the narrative by bringing down and ridiculing a fellow human. Especially when it’s evident they’re suffering a very public emotional breakdown.
That is all. I just ask that you think about it for a moment. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
