I have two words for you people, two words- Olivia Palermo. She has just gone and married model Johannes Huebl and in the process hit every single fashion mark straight out of the ball park! I mean she’s hit this fashion ball so far that I doubt we’re going to see such class and elegance again for a long time to come.
Olivia Palermo is a New York socialite who came to prominence in 2009 when she appeared on the reality show THE CITY along side fashion designer Whitney Port. It was there that photographers and fashion houses took a shining to her. The camera loved her, and so did we. Her sense of style catapulted her to fashion icon status. Olivia models, blogs and is a fashion inspiration for women all around the world. A real Carrie Bradshaw- right down to her cobalt blue Manolo Blahniks she wore with her wedding ensemble.
Wedding ensemble you ask? Yes- this is what I love the most about this wedding- Olivia’s wedding outfit. A jumper, shorts and a tulle skirt. Of course they were all by designer Carolina Herrera- but the outcome is the same. She chose to stick to a look that she knows works for her. Simple, elegant and edgy at the same time. I LOVE that her hair is in a messy ponytail and that her make up is simple and fresh. She looks comfortable and fabulous. No tight mermaid dress, cleavage or tiara in sight! I almost want to get married again so I can replicate this look- but you know what? This is a look that can be adapted for any occasion. And make no mistake- this is a look that is going to be one of the most copied and coveted of the year.
Palmero wore a cream jumper with ostrich feathers, a white embroidered tulle skirt and matching shorts by Carolina Herrera, which she topped off with signature blue Manolo Blahniks. She wore her hair swept up into a chic ponytail, with minimal makeup.
“I wanted the make-up to be light and fresh and more focused about the lashes while keeping the eyes clean,” explained Palermo on her blog. “My hair was in an uncontrived ponytail, one of my favorite personal looks.”
Rumours are that this wedding, which was just the civil ceremony, was just part one. The couple will be tying the knot again in front of a larger audience at an unknown date. I’m sure it’s there that we’ll see the amazing designer wedding dress. But you know what? I kind of wish this was her only wedding outfit. Remember when Carrie Bradshaw lost her head when planning her wedding and ended up wearing a BIRD in her head? Yeah that? Didn’t she look so much nicer in her vintage jacket and skirt when she married BIG at City Hall?
The lesson here is, don’t try to be someone you’re not. Stick with what works for you. if you feel comfortable and beautiful on the inside then that’s what you will project to the world. Olivia has just shown us that less really is more. Flawless Palermo, flawless!! X
